The topic was " what did you do today" started the non-yanny generated discussion. Maybe the topic should have been " what have you done today using your yanmar" so it stays within the realm of " yanmar tractor forum"
But this topic will most assuredly impact your yanmar tractor in the long(short) run as the powers that be will use the deep freeze to raise the fuel prices; gas, diesel, natural gas, propane. I will not be surprised to see $5.00 at the pump within a year.
Imagine what that will do to groceries. At what price does your tractor become yard art?

Bob,
What is tell-tailing in the article is this one piece ... “The discussion is not about wind or natural gas or coal or nuclear – they all failed,” Krishnamoorti said. “It is an absence of planning and the political will to deliver. In 2011, all the generating CEOs promised in letters to winterize (irrespective of source) – not one company demonstrated the winterization.” If I lived in Texas, there would be a class-action lawsuit to jump aboard on. -- Yanmar Tractor Owners Group. If I knew there was a possibility my pipes would freeze, my first move would be to shut off the main supply line and drain the lines. I can't understand why the news is showing video of people walking through their homes with water still spraying through their pipes. I agree that many people never experienced this before and were totally unprepared. People dying from CO after running generators in their closed garages! You'd think the news would have put out alerts when they knew the polar vortex was heading down south.

Very funny posting of the panels and windmill blades - and some truth there too. However, we know that the rest of the USA, as well as northern Europe have a large number of windmills and solar panels, are building more, & neither one has any problem with winter weather. The winter panel and propellor problem was obvious from the start and solved decades ago. Notice that we haven't heard of similar failures with similar grids from the Oklahoma thru Nebraska. It looks to me like the problem Texas is having is mostly due to a simple lack of foresight.....maybe in combination with original construction putting initial cost over reliability. Any farmer will tell you that combining lack of foresight with cheap construction is the path to problems....as well as big future expenses. For that matter, I grew up "on the land" and still live there although no longer am involved with farming. But I don't know of anyone living rurally who doesn't keep a generator ready to be started at all times. Around here we lose power more commonly from wind than winter. To my mind the real tragedy is the city folk facing this outage for the first (not last) time. But I'm betting they will figure it out. People usually do. As for fuel costing more, the base price/barrel is surprisingly similar across the USA. Taxes and fees make the difference - on average about 55% of the cost here locally, although some areas are higher. That's low-hanging political fruit to be plucked, but rabidly protected. rScotty

I went to the store one day,I xan't remember which, and the shelves looked like Russian grocery shelves. I went for salt for my water softener but was so disgusted I just left. I went to another store and there was a line so I went home. Luckily we always keep a good supply of food on hand, and even if that dwindles down I can hunt. I sympathize with you. I have livestock & we had -20 last week .I had Fuel jell in my F60d while feeding the cattle hay & waters froze, but we can deal with it. It just takes longer to do chores & I’m exhausted by the end of the day. I heard the Texas Secretary of Agriculture being interviewed this week. Farmers can’t get feed for their cattle, milk is being dumped , meat can’t get processed & the stores are running out of food. The price to the farmer is dropping & the price in the store is going up. This is worse than the Covid supply chain problems. Price of gas here in northern Illinois has gone up $.60. With all the government spending, the dollar will become weaker & buy less.

I live in Texas. Lost power for 9 hours day before yesterday. It gets cold in the house real fast without heat. My neighbor has an above ground pool that completely froze. Do not know how you folks that deal with that every year can cope. I'm ready for the Texas heat. That $4.70 gas price, get ready for that to be the norm now that biden put a stop to the pipeline, fracking and no more drilling on public land. We will go back to being dependent on opec and they will make up for what they lost the last 4 years. This is not intended to be a political statement just my gut feeling. And how do solor panels generate electricity when covered in snow. Looks like the green new deals not such a great idea.....
The biggest problem is the grid is run by company not from TX, how does that work.

I read an article recently on the Asian murder hornets that are showing up in the Northwest. They will invade a honeybee hive and destroy thousands of the helpless bees. These are frightening times.

This is an eye opening post Steve. Prayers go out to those in Texas and the South who are facing the latest weather-related crisis - on top on the pandemic.

This community has been really quiet in the past few weeks. Not sure if it was the inauguration or the bad weather chilling to the bone or what.
I do know a few members are in Texas and the surrounding states. On a few of the tractor forums some members have had a chance to chime in. It's not good out there for anyone. Can't stay warm, no water, no fuel, and in some cases no food. Family in TN said the gas pipeline from the Texas refineries is now down. Price per gallon is reaching almost $4.70 in some areas. Looked at a weather map this evening. For the first time in over 50 years, 73% or more of the USA land in the 48 states is snow covered. With the previous 2019 flooding wheat crops were destroyed. 2020 had the C19 crisis and farmers rarely planted. 2021 dark winter has kill off 60% of the winter wheat crops. I'll be listening to the farm report this Saturday AM on my local station. Cattle are suffering in this cold really bad. The 2019 flooding killed well over 1.2 million cattle and the farm report then said it would take 10 years to rebuild the herd levels. Now this 2021 dark winter cold event with the power off and water heaters down, times will be very hard for the farmers and for the markets to buy meats. On my home front, we lost a few hens already due to the cold. Canadian geese have been flying south-east over head now for the past week in huge formations in mid-February. Oddest thing to see. Another future event will be the mid-west lose of pollinators and bees due to the sub-zero weather held over 3-days. Those food crops in the Spring will suffer then due to the pollinator die off. Sadly, this is the peak year for the cicada cycle. They too destroy crops in huge numbers. The Farmers Almanac says their voices are heard when the millet crops are ripe. More odd events was the report of 2,216 earth quakes recorded over the past week. This highest amount yet on record. Even places that are not know for earth tremors got them. And the same area Japan had the tsunami got a 7.1 quake, yet no ocean tsunami wave was reported. That is much higher quake than the destruction one that hit back then. Come Spring it's, Grow A Garden Like Your Life Depends On It. Been watching, The Joyful Gardener Series with Stacey Murphy. Takes my mind off of the crazy events. https://growyourownvegetables.org/docuseries-episode Steve

My grandson rented a Bentley with a driver to ride us around for my birthday today. That was definitely a bucket list crossoff.
Sunday I cut a cedar tree down and drug it off with my tractor. Came close to rolling the tractor on a slope that was steeper than I thought. Right rear wheel started to raise up so I hit the brakes, dropped the bucket and shredder and slowly backed down
into the slope. That raised the pucker factor off the chart. The moral if that story is to pay attention to your terrain.

Re: Yanmar Tiller POLL
#poll-notice
Yanmar Community,
Just reviving this poll a little. WHY? Because at the present, we now have 27 Yanmar Tiller manuals in the queue to polish off and upload to the MANUALS section of our BOX Storage location. These are the present 3 in the poll. 1300 (need the pre-fix letters if any) 1401D (not sure if this was a tractor) RS-1300N Steve

Re: Our new Yanmar RESOURCE Page
Yanmar Community,
We have had several members join in the past 2 weeks. A big welcome to our strong community. Most important is knowing where the manuals are located and other documentation. Check out our Wiki Resource page of the following under the Yanmar Manuals link: The Wiki Resource page should be your main GOTO page for everything about your Yanmar. Have a suggestion for the Wiki Resource page, by all means reply to the FEEDBACK page here: https://yanmar-tractor-owners.groups.io/g/main/topic/77409138?p=Created,,,20,2,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,77409138 Thank you, Steve
